"This was the second year I had gone to deer hill. I went with my brother, not knowing anyone besides him, and I immediately made friends within the first hour, and I am still in contact with all of them, months after the trip has ended. The people, both campers and staff, were kind, helpful, compassionate, understanding, etc. and the experience that I underwent throughout the 28 days of my trip was spectacular and unique. It is impossible to describe the experience in words. The backpacking was met with gorgeous sceneries of double rainbows, summer snow, and many other amazing landscapes. This experience was once-in-a-lifetime. This trip gave me an opportunity to actively engage with the rare beauty and power of the landscape as well as immerse myself in a Navajo culture, learning from the host community as I did volunteer work with the rest of the group on their property.
This experience was amazing, and one that I will never forget.
Thank you Deer Hill for an amazing summer."

"My daughter had an amazing time. She has not stopped talking about her experience. She says that she made new friends, learned new skills like canoeing and had a powerful time doing service work on the Navajo Nation. As a parent, what I see is a more mature, compassionate and self assured young woman. I would recommend Deer Hill to anyone with a teenager."

"My name is Naeemah and i attended one of Deer Hills trip during the summer of 2010.
Deer Hill Expeditions is not your average summer camp. Deer Hill is more than just camp games and singng funny song. Deer Hill is an experience that me and many of my group mates found life changing. My experience at Deer Hill has changed me greatly by showing me that I have the potential to achieve my goals and be a strong leader. Deer Hill helped me come out of comfort zone and let myself have fun . At Deer Hill I was able to connect to people on a level i never thought was possible. I had worried that i wouldn't fit in like my previous summer camps; but at Deer Hill you spend 24/7 with people and they become your family which makes it impossible not to fit in. Deer Hill allowed me to be myself and figure out who I really am. I left Deer Hill with a new found confidence,a want to help others and great friends that i still hold close relationships to. Going to Deer Hill is so far the greatest experience of my life and highly recommend that whoever reads this goes to Deer Hill and figures out how life changing it is for themself.

"My son loved Deer Hill. He is a kid that needs to be challenged physically, mentally and emotionally, but can see right through anything that seems contrived. Deer Hill offered him REAL challenges that had meaning. They went whitewater rafting through the canyons in Utah where he learned to paddle himself, they backpacked through the mountains and rockclimbed and climbed mountains. But the best part was the service project on the Navajo Reservation where they lived with a family and helped them with projects on their sheep ranch. He really loved their Navajo family and learned so much about this completely different culture.
He made some really good friends, too while he was there. He thought that the other kids in his group were pretty awesome - most wanted to be there and were really motivated to work hard and have adventures. They were also great kids from nice families. He has stayed in touch with a few of them and they are all talking about going back to Deer Hill next year.
For my husband and myself, we felt really good about sending him to Deer Hill. They were professional and personable and very helpful while we were trying to decide which program to sign up for and with all of the paperwork that had to be done. I felt like they actually knew who I was (and who my son was) when I called there.
His instructors seemed to be very skilled and liked the kids a lot. My guy had a good time with his leaders and said that he never felt unsafe. They played games and taught the kids lots of new skills like paddling and cooking and all about geology and some history of the Navajos.
There is nothing that we didn't like. I would recommend Deer Hill to anyone with teenagers who want a special summer experience. "

"I attended the Wilderness Leadership course at Deer Hill Expeditions the summer before my senior year in high school, and it was INCREDIBLE! We took a course to be certified in wilderness first aid (lots of fun), then backpacked through an amazing system of canyons in Utah. We got to explore Anasazi ruins up on the walls of the canyons, and there were broken shards of pottery still there. It was amazing. Then we lived on a Native American reservation in New Mexico, which was an awesome, eye-opening experience. We learned about their culture, and they learned about ours as we did community service together, and just hung out with them. We then did strenuous backpacking for a week and a half in the Rockies in Colorado, honing our leadership skills by learning orienteering, teaching lessons on weather, animals, etc. and being the leaders of the day. Our group bonded and became incredibly close, and I still maintain contact with them. Plus, I now am much more confident as a leader. This was an invaluable experience for me, and I highly recommend Deer Hill Expeditions."

"I went to Deer Hill Expeditions as a camper twice, in 1998 and in 2001 and I had a really meaningful experience both times, so I went back to work as a staff member in 2006.
I was drawn to go back because I felt that Deer Hill had such an amazing effect on me in terms of self-esteem, raising respect and love for nature and other people, and for showing me that giving back is more than worth it!! I remember thinking that it was so amazing to meet people from all over the country and become friends rapidly while learning about the outdoors.
The thing that really stands out about Deer Hill Expeditions is their dedication to service work. I learned so much about myself, the natural world, and other cultures when I helped the forest service work on trails and after visiting the Navajo reservation and assisting an elderly man with his gardening and yardwork. I would recommend this camp to anyone!
